SELF HOSTING

9 DAY KAYAK COURSE

GATHER A TEAM AND ALL BUILD SHRIKES…SUPER-LIGHT SEAWORTHY AND HIGHLY MANOEUVRABLE

SELF HOSTING 9 DAY KAYAK WORKSHOPS IN THE U.K AND EUROPE

BUILD YOUR OWN LIGHTWEIGHT SEA KAYAK IN A TEAM, IN 9 DAYS, FOR €1000 COMPLETE

HOW IT WORKS IN THE U.K

You can assemble a team of 4 to 8 people wanting to build their own kayaks, where you provide a suitable venue for 10 days, this can be any suitable empty building as no machinery is needed (contact us for details). You will schedule the date of your build in consultation with us. When you book the course, construction manuals are sent for all those taking part, to get an idea of whats involved. You will delegate a team liaison for setting up the course.

We arrive at your venue the day before the course with all materials and consumables needed to build the kayaks and set up the area. The following day participants will each need to bring a small tool kit (optional) and a pair of workmates (benches) or trestles. The course will run from 9am to 6pm, for 9 consecutive days, with provision to extend each work day until 8pm. Lunch and accommodation will be the responsibility of individual team members. Team participants can leave and re-join the course at their discretion, but any resulting lag in progress will be their responsibility (Its inevitable that occasionally people will have important things to attend to during their builds, and some will work quicker than others)

At the end of the 9 days you should all have finished constructing your ‘Shrike’ Sea kayak. Any consequent painting, varnishing and fitting out can be completed in your own time, once you take the boat home. Courses in England and Wales cost £980 per person (Scotland and N.Ireland £1020) The price you pay includes all construction materials, a foam seat and backrest material, plus 2 screw hatches. Paint, Varnish, Deck and Skeg fittings are optional and not included with the course fee.

Groups or individuals who are able to attend a course locally (within 25 miles of Brighton) and do not wish to ‘self host’ should contact us, we can arrange courses at various local venues for the same price.

At least one member of the building group should speak English and be willing to do some verbal translation as we go forward, much will be demonstrated visually.
